HighereducationsysteminIndiahasbeenexpandedinaremarkableway,particularlyinthepostindependenceperiod,tobecomeoneofthelargestsystemsofitskindintheworld.However,the GrossEnrollmentRatio (GER) is farbelowwhencompared todevelopedandmanydeveloping countries.TheGovernmentofIndiahasfocusedonincreasingtheaccessandensuringequityduring successiveplanperiods.Theresultantgrowth,thoughimpressive,failedtoensuredesiredQuality inHigherEducation.OnlyafewHigherEducationInstitutionsearnedreputationforhighquality services.Globalizationhasresultedinsignificantchangesintheknowledgeeconomyandushered newconditionsfortheprovisionofhighereducationtocatertheskillrequirementallacrosstheglobe.
